UNDER 5'S ROOKIE EVENT FOR WOMEN.
Our Club has a very strong commitment to the development of sport for women. As part of this commitment a great new tournament being held this weekend the 31st July & 1st August. Called the Under 5's it is open the female players who have been playing for less than 5 years. It is a great opportunity for bowlers to test their ability against players of the same experience.
A full field of 42 players arrived on Saturday morning under rainy conditions. Many had travelled long distances and were concerned that play may not go ahead. But conditions improved and the first of the three pool games of 14 sections began just a little after 9.00am. There were some great bowls in the pool rounds as the players fought for the top position that enabled them to proceed to the knockout stage. Even if you did not win your section the next top two players went through. A full result of the pool games is available here. The knockout games commenced right on time at 3.00 pm. Those who had proceeded through the pool games were facing their 4th game of the day virtually playing non stop for 6 hours. The scores in the knockout round of 16 were: Denita Payne 17 Yolanta Ackroyd 8; Sharron Scarcella 17 Hillary Jenkins 13; Monica Burt 17 Kim Mason 7; Michelle Treadwell 17 Seleste Skelton 7; Robin Beaumont 17 Anthia Hart 12; Gaelene Scanlon 17 Janet McLean 12; Joanne Warner 17 Linda Pedersen 4; Anne Pill 17 Joy Jorssen 11. We are now down to 8 players and the knockout round will commence at 9.00 am Sunday 1st August. The draw is: Denita Payne v Sharron Scarcella; Monica Burt v Michelle Treadwell; Joanne Warner v Anne Pill and Gaelene Scanlon v Robin Beaumont.
The final will commence at 1.30 pm on Sunday 1st August. We are pleased and honoured to announce that well known Australian International Karen Murphy and Scottish International Kay Moran will be present for the presentation on Sunday 1st August.
It was a great was a great day the first day of the Under 5's. The final day should even be better. The Parkview Bistro will be open during the Under 5's. We greatly appreciate the support of Bowling Club Insurance Brokers for this great new event. Please feel free to contact us or phone on 97986666 for more details.
BATTLE OF THE SEXES FOR 2010 PLAYED ON SUNDAY 23RD MAY.
The Annual Battle of the Sexes played in triples over 2 games of 11 ends was held in wet conditions on Sunday 23rd May. An unique event where the women players lay down the challenge to the men players this year like other years resulted in some very tough and close matches. Prizes were awarded for the overall winner and the 1st & 2nd men & women's teams. The overall winner was K Draper, T Quinn & T Quinn with 2 wins plus 14 shots. The best women's team was M Stubbs, V Franks & L Headington with 2 wins plus 13 shots. As four of the women's teams finished with the same result a countback was required with the winners scoring 27, the second place women's team was M Downs, Y Ackroyd & R Roberts with 2 wins plus 13 shots and on the countback 26. Congratulations also to the second place men's team of E Kaas, J Studd & M Duncan on 2 wins plus 11 shots. Despite the weather everyone had a great day with plenty of lucky door prizes. A special thanks to our visitors from Clubs in the Illawarra for making the trip up the coast. We look forward to next year and hopefully better conditions. For all the photos Click here

TOO HOT TO TROT 2010. Proudley sponsored by Raine & Horne Ashfield The first tournament for 2010 has been completed. Known as the Too Hot To Trot Ladies Triples it is held over the four Saturday mornings of February. It is the ideal warm up for the forthcoming Inter Club Competition known as the Pennants. This years competition attracted 20 top teams all eager to claim the Tournament Crown. The first weekend was a washout but it still left 6 very tough games played in great spirit and with some great bowls. On the final day of play Saturday 27th February perfect conditions were in place for the teams to enjoy thier game and determine a winner.
The winners of this year's competition was won by the composite Ashfield Team of Joy Jorssen, Mona Downs & skip Kitty Gallagher with 6 wins and a margin of 51shots. It was also a double celebration for Mona Downs who celebrated her birthady on the final day of competition. This is a remakeable result for this team considering that both Joy & Mona have been playing for a very short period of time. In second place from Randwick was the team of Margaret Kenneday, Moto Koderea and Taryn Keir with 6 wins and 42 shots, finishing off a podium finish in 3rd place was Chris Nicholas, Marie Whitbread and Shirley Hines of Lidcombe with 5 wins, 35 shots.
There are plenty of photos on our photos page, feel free to downlaod any. Many thanks to all the teams who competed and good luck in the forthcoming Pennants Competition. Final results are listed below. If you would like more detailed results including results of all games click here for a PDF file. You may have to rotate this file.
Finally many thanks once agian to our sponsor Raine & Horne Ashfield also thanks to Bakers Delight Ashfield for thier support
