The Women’s Major Singles 2010 title belongs to Rose Roberts.
On Saturday, 19 June 2010, Rose out bowled experienced bowler Pat Butler 31-15 to take out the revered title of Women’s Major Singles Champion.
Rose had engaged in a determined campaign to win the title. Her earlier games against highly regarded bowler, Metua Teinaki and rookie Linda Pedersen were not easy tasks but may have been sound grounding for her semi-final match. In the semi-final Rose met Marina Deluchi, the 2010 Minor Singles Champion.Marina led for most of the match but faltered in the mid 20’s giving Rose the chance to close the gap and go on to win 31 – 29.
It was with great pride that out-going four times champion, Beverley Pendleton handed over the championship badge to Rose Roberts. This is the title aspired to by many and attained by few, and there is no doubt that Rose will have many challengers for her title in 2011.
Rose was honoured the following day on Sunday, 20 June 2010 at the Women’s Bowling Club 50th birthday celebrations when the State President, Jewel Buchanan pinned the championship badge on a very deserving shirt.
Well done Rose, a deserved win.

MARINA MAKES THE MINORS HERS.
The first Championship of 2010 has been decided with Marina Deluchi winning the minor singles and Tracey Jones being the runner up. The final was a tense battle between the two rookie bowlers. They had both came through some tough qualifying matches to reach the final. In very heavy conditions and at times light rain the players had to fight hard to claim an end. Marina took the first two ends and maintained the lead. Tracey never gave up constantly niggling, and picking up one and two shots frustating Marina before she could get the Championship 31 shots. The final score was Marina 32 shots Tracey 18 shots. Well done Marina. It was a big weekend in the Deluchi household with Marina’s husband going down by just one shot in the final of the men's fours the previous day. Left to Right Club Champions 2009 Beverley Pendleton, marker June Donoghoe, runner up Maria Di Rosario
Beverley Pendleton took out the Women’s Major Singles for 2009 on Saturday 4th July with a 32 shots to 16 shots win over Maria Di Rosario. It was Beverley’s fourth win in Major Singles Championships. Runner up Maria Di Rosario, who has only been playing bowls for 18 months, put up a very solid performance testing Beverley in the early stages and it seemed that an up set could be on the cards. The rookie Maria controlled the game for the first 8 ends of the total of 25 ends played, taking an early lead. However on the 9th end Beverley scored the maximum 4 shots which swung the game slightly in the defending champion’s way. Despite the 4 shots, Beverley had not completely shaken off Maria with 3 shots going to Maria on the 12th end and just 2 shots separating the pair. Beverley slowly pulled away over the concluding stages of the championship final. With Beverley now Club Major Singles Champion on four occasions she is now clearly the second highest winner of the Major Singles Championship. However Beverley will have to double her victories if she is to be the greatest all time winner. That title belongs to Peg Gordon with seven championships in 1966,1969,1971,1974,75,76 & 1982. It was also a significant match for marker June Donoghoe who performed one of her last duties as President after a three year term that saw the Ashfield Women’s Bowling Club go from strength to strength. Well played to all who partook in the Major Singles Championship for 2009
